Which gears for 37's?

Ive been running around for a year or so now with the new motor and trans on 3.73's and need more gear.. so with my mods and weight. Dont pull but do alot of stop and go around town. im also adding a truetrac and elocker.

So for 37 13.50 17 toyo mt's 4.10 gears or 4.30 gears?

I would actually step up to 4.56s.

My son put in 4.56 and he turns the same rpm as I do with stock tires on my dually and I have 4.10 . So don't go any higher then 4.30 . Oh and my son has 35 tires.

So with 37s he should be turnin a few hundred less RPMs than your sons truck, which in my opinion is the sweet spot on a 7.3.

If you don’t pull very much with it just keep the 3.73’s. I run 37’s and at 70 MPH I stay at 1750 RPM. You may lose MPG in town; however, you will gain it back on road trips. I thought about changing mine out for a long time but eventually decided to keep 3.73’s. Having 37’s changes your 3.73’s to more of a 3.50 ratio so going with a 4.10 will bring you back closer to a true 3.73 and beyond that you will gain low end at the cost of losing top end. Not a big deal unless you routinely drive in the 80-100 mph range but realistically, 4.30’s and 4.56’s would be ideal for an in-town truck but on the highway you will notice a big increase in RPM and a decrease in mileage.

I don't think you'll see that much decrease in mpg. You have a 8000# truck. The lower gears will get it moving better with less throttle pressure. It will be like you put a tuner in as of feel on the pedal. If ford thought you wood get better milage with 3.30's they would of put it in. And it better on the trans to. 4.30 puts you right about 3.90 gears.

This is my opinion so don't get mad but I think you are nuts to just change to 4.10's with 37 tires. The cost unless you do it yourself is over 1800.oo You need to go to at least 4.30 . Thats what ford puts in there King Ranch with stock tires. That would put you around 3.90 which use to be great gears in my racing days for street strip. It gave you low end tork and mph without going to low for the street. Again this is just my 2 cents. My price post was for 4x4.
God Bless, Chet

i tend to agree with you. and the reason it doesnt really matter is i was putting a truetrac and elocker in to begin with so the gears are the icing on the cake. the whole reason i even decided to do it is to help with city stop and go mpg. but i do like to drive 75-80 on the hwy as well.

and with my mods (500+ hp) and soon to be compound turbo and 300/200 for 600hp i dont want too much gear. its not like i have a stock+chip truck.

thanks for your post!

Madmaxz, have you been live tuned the way you are. I would think you are right at 500hp with good tuning. I understand where your coming from on the gears but 3.90 final ratio should be just fine at 75 and 80mph with your 37 tires and 4.30 rear end.
