Hey guys I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with your steering getting frozen in cold weather? The past few mornings I have gone out to start my truck (2011 Ecoboost) to warm it up and defrost the windows. After coming back outside and getting in and trying to back out my steering wheel has been stuck and wouldn't move. I wiggled it back and forth and couldn't get it to budge until I really cranked hard on it and it finally breaks free and then it's fine all day long. It's like it's getting frozen. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of anyone else having this issue? I'm planning on going to a dealer once I get back up to NY after the holidays because I don't trust anyone here in NC to understand anything about cold weather( they think 40 is cold here haha).
So we can assume there was no ice accumulation on the steering gear/unit? How much "wiggle" are you able to do with the steering wheel? Maybe a loose connection to the steering unit?
Being it's electric.....hard to see it "breaking" loose unless something is getting stuck in the unit itself.
I haven't had any issues with mine as far as the steering goes. The lady in the sync unit takes a nap at times plus like every other Ford F 150 I have owned, the brakes grab when damp. Four wheel disc brakes didn't cure this for me.

Reason: Spelling...
I get about a half inch wiggle side to side if that before it breaks free. But no there wasn't any ice or anything accumulated underneath there wasn't any snow on the ground just cold weather(teens to low 20s) I'm not real sure what's going on. I'm gonna crawl under the truck this weekend when I spend the day cleaning it to see if there's anything loose, busted or jammed in the way.
Will do sir! Yeah the steering on this truck took some getting used to but I have grown to really like it alot. Yeah it only does it when temps get below 30

Did you ever figure out what the problem was. I had this situation in my 2012 F150 last year and hoped it would go away over the summer. Its 20 degrees this morning and the steering is not moving.

10yo thread and the one you asked a question hasn't posted in this forum in 7 years.
