I'm thinking of doing some serious rust repair come spring and figure i might as well replace my whole cab if i can find the right price.
I found this F700 cab for sale and it looks like its the exact same cab minus the little wheel well part that can be removed. ford truck cab 84-97
my truck is a regular cab, does anyone know if there are any differences in these cabs. i haven't seen it in person but it looks to be in much better condition than my cab, and if it fits could make a nice swap.
It can be done, but there are differences in the front cab mount area. I put a F150 cab on a F600 and had to do quite a bit of work to make the mounts fit.
ok I kind of figure that there was a difference because i knew the frames differed so i though mounts my be different. I'll just keep my eye out for a better buy i have time to shop around anyways.
Thanks for the response
yeah they love to complicate things as much they can thats why i dont want a newer truck. i have a mid 80's truck a late 70's bike and someday a late 60's mustang. I'm going to resist newer stuff as long as i can
No problem Before 1980 the cabs were a direct swap, but you know that they can't leave things that simple
not really.
we tried putting a cab from a mid 70's u-haul f-700 on a pickup and found the whole firewall was different. the steering column hole is different than a pickups, the brake master mounts different, and clutch rod holes are different
not really.

True, but at least they will bolt on, the later years don't even come close
I don't think, or it be alot of work anyways, to put one of those cabs on a pickup
Notice how high the cab sits off the frame? Notice that "wall" section under the floor, it makes the cab corners/rockers level with the top of the frame, while our cabs, the rockers/corners sit 6+" below the top of the frame.
See here, notice on the back of my cab, the center section is not even close to sitting on the trailer, and go look at that pic of the back of the cab on that F700. Everything is flush all the way across.
I my self looked into this when I was looking for a cab, as it's much easier finding a rust free cab on those trucks than pickups, especially since they sit alot higher off the ground, so not as much salt gets on them.
