I just got the replacement pieces for the felt weatherstripping that the door window slides in. The 2 pieces are called "door glass runs" from LMC truck. I was wondering if it is easier to remove the glass to put the new ones in and if so, how do I take it out? Also do I need to use spray adhesive or contact cement to hold the new pieces in place?
I don't think that you can get the old ones out with out taking out the window.
First take the door panel off then take out the bolt that holds the vent window/window guild. Then take out the 3 screw that hold the vent window in that are on the front of the door jam. Slide the window off its track and set it in the bottom of the door. Then take out the old run then install new one. If your old run is really hard (Like mine was) you can take the metal track piece to get at the section that is inside the door.
Hope this help if you need them I can go snap some pics.
I had to free the window from the channel, but I didn't have to remove the glass from the door. I just let it sit in the bottom of the door. Mine didn't require adhesive, they just pressed in.
I did mine a few months back and they just pressed in, drivers side is now falling out. I don't think they get adhesive but i will use a small amount to hold it better. may be my installation at fault. mine also LMC, OK but not great.
They are supposed to have weatherstrip adhesive. Its yellow and its what ford used from the factory. I just did mine and my old ones were so hard i had to chizel them out. It was horrible haha
"Door glass run" (up the back of the door, then over the top of the glass to the vent window division bar) are hand pressed into the metal channels. As original, no adhesive of any kind was used.
The glass runs and "cat whiskers" can be purchased from autoglass shops. Come in certain lenghts, then are "cut to fit."
The "cat whiskers" use clips to attach them to the inner/outer sides of the door glass. These weatherseals are also referred to as "anti-rattlers."
I was wondering if the glass runs and anti rattlers could be purchased generically, LMC charge crazy amounts for them. Thanks NumberDummy I am going to check the local shops.
Thanks for the help, everybody. Last night I dropped the glass out of the tracks, and used so spray adhesive to put the door glass runs in- it went well and they seem to be working well. I had to chisel the old ones out (what was left of them) but the new ones seem to fit well. Now I just have to find some replacement clips to put my aftermarket LMC doorpanel back on...
Out of curiosity, has anyone purchase the entire LCM or NPD anti-rattler kits? I think it has the door runs, cat-whiskers, and inner-rubber seals for one door for ~$150. Is this a reasonable price or are there cheaper alternatives?
