I'm working on my dad's 95 F350 4x4 PSD MT. It has had this problem for a few years, seems to be getting worse. Driving along it will shut off for 1/2 or sec at a time repeatedly, causing it to jerk real bad. Sometimes it will actually stall but starts right back up. I was going to check codes manually, dont have a scanner, but I don't see a self test input terminal. I went to Fordfuelinjection.com, and looked where they say it is on the efi trucks, no dice. There is what looks like a diagnostic connector under the dash to the right of the steering wheel but it doesnt have the single self test connector. Can I get codes manually on this truck?
That was my first thought, just hate throwing parts at it.I tried tapping on the crank sensor... no change but I dont know if thats a good test on these or not. I used to do that a lot on gassers for cam and crank sensors and you could usually get them to act up.
Whats the concensus on aftermarket ones? Autozone has it for $20 but I'm leaning towrds NAPA for I think $30 or so, and I'm getting a new fuel tank from them today anyway ($109 for the rear one). I'd still like to know if I can check codes without a scanner if anyone has any insight to that. I think I checked codes on it a while back when I had access to a scanner and came up with none, and there has never been a CEL that I know of.
No.. not sure what that is but I'll search it. I picked up a cps from Napa, hopefully it will work as well as an oem. Didnt get to try it out, had to replace the fuel tank and that didnt go well. Fought the quick disconnect for .5 hr+... they should call them quick connects, they do that fine but when it comes to disconnecting them, they can be a real PITA. I'm gonna replace the cam sensor tommorow or the next day when I can get back over there, I'll post results. I'm still wondering if you can check codes manually.
The fpr screen is on the drivers side of the fuel bowl towards the top in the regulator. You can take the fuel filter out and you should see a lil hole on the inside of the bowl top drivers side. Take a q tip and cut the cotton part off and use the stick part to wipe the screen off through the hole. Or you can take the regulator apart toget to it. Some one on here should have a pic to show you. My truck would cut out every now and then and that fixed it for me. Thanks again copedawg.
Any updates? Mine just started doing the same thing yesterday. Hoping the parts place is open at ford today since i need the truck tomorrow. The one i have now is the crappy napa one. Its lasted 1.5 months. Shows what theyre worth.
Mine is doing the exact same thing. Replaced the CPS, fuel filter, and cleaned the FPR screen. No dice, still doing the same thing. I have performed the ohm check on the injectors and everything is within range, very little variation between all 8.
I don't know about the original post, but, mine never threw any codes. As far as the TPS, I was told you could check it by using cruise control to see if it still acted the same. I tried the cruise control and it made no difference at all.
Not trying to hijack any posts, I'm just frustrated. As I'm sure the other people that are having this problem.
