Burning oil?!

Hiya, 2005 F250, 6.0, 60K miles, recently (within last 1K miles) had ARP studs, EGR delete and new oil cooler installed. Shortly after (5-6 weeks later) I noticed blue smoke under any load (taking off from red light, backing up) but not at idle or startup. Was using the "Performance" SCT canned tune after the stud install, but had the "65HP Tow" canned tune installed when I first noticed the smoke and now back to stock after noticed the smoke as a precaution. Everything else original except FICM, filters and batteries and use 5w40 Mobil 1 since new. Any thoughts?

You might pull a CAC tube to see how much oil your CCV system is putting into the intake.

Also - you might look for oil in the downpipe.

Oil in downpipe could mean a turbo seal

Oil in turbo inlet or CAC tubes could be normal, or could be indicative of excessive crankcase pressure

Took it in to the shop today, family friend so I do trust them, and he says it has excessive crankcase pressure as there is lots of oil in the intercooler and piping. He says that the ultimate fix is new piston rings and he ballparked it at $5-7K. Does this sound plausible at 60K miles and no performance mods besides the exhaust? I had head studs, EGR delete and new oil cooler installed less than 1K miles ago.

Boy these Bottom ends seam to be pretty solid I just cant imagine your truck needing rings at 60K

Like Mark said some oil in the CAC system is normal

Are you the original owner

and have you been changing the oil every 5K-7500miles

At Idel how much pressure can you feel coming from the oil Filler when you take the cap off

There really shouldnt be any pressure at the oil fill cap you want a touch of Vacuum IMO Thats what the CCV system is for

Who did the studs

what kind of headgasket did you go with OEM I hope

did they mill the heads

why did you have heads done

Did you use ARP studs

See where Im going I would almost blame it on the recent work more than the Bottom end

Did it start this since the head work

wow, how exactly did he test crank case pressure. did he retest it with the cac tubes off too?
ccp can come from a bad turbo aswell.

I bought the truck with 5500 miles on it and it had no trailer hitch ever installed on it. I have used 5W40 synthetic oil since I bought it with intervals of 6K miles. The tech said that he's never seen a 6.0 that's needed piston rings at this mileage and the local dealership doesn't remember the last time they sold a set. He thinks that due to the synthetic oil and lack of use that maybe the rings hadn't seated properly? He recommended I try going back to 15W40 non-synthetic and see if it helps anything. I'll see how the oil cap pressure feels once I get the truck back in an hour or so.

lots of theory and bs. I however have seen it before. you can get a boost leak to the oil return for one. but imo your tech friend should be well aware

I never would have thought of the turbo Cheezit

So if it had an overboost condition is that how the turbo would cause CCP??

Thanks in advance Cheezit
