Sure, it can be chipped. What's needed is the ECU code (sometimes called the PCM code). Its 3 letters followed by 1 number. Its located on the drivers side, under dash area, behind the kick panel . Look for a small silver box about 1 1/2 inches thick, 8 inches wide and about 10 inches long. The code will be on it or on the wiring harness going into it.
I put a Diablo Delta in my 96 Bronco 5.8 and it made a definite difference, i highly recimmend it. Most bang for the buck of any upgrade I have ever done.
I was looking at diablo website and their are to many chips to choose from, they dont give enough details..Wat stage do I want..one chip is $89.00 and the next is $200.. any help would be appreceated..thanx
No chip is $89. You're looking at the fee for custom programming. The performance is the same regardless of the stage. Stage one is always on, a stage two lets you switch between performance and stock modes.
K on hypertechs web site they just show instructions for 93-95 F-150s so would the computer be in the same spot in my 96?..So then is their a old chip you remove and replace with a new chip or you just add the new one?. Do you have to take the box apart to get to the chip or is it on the outside of the computer.?? Sorry for all the questions but im just making sure "im sure I will figure it out to once its apart...thanxs
Shows you how much Hypertech knows! 96 is the same as 95. There is no existing chip, you plug the chip module into the access port on the computer (outside edge of box). No need to worry, I include full instructions and its not difficult.
k the # on the computer is "mug2" does this sound right??? Will a diablo chip change the shifting at all. On the diablo web site it said something about using a higher octane gas then I do now??If so is their any way I can run regular gas.
MUG2 is the code. Yes, it will change the tranny shifting characteristics and yes, it does require premium fuel. We can do a non-premium chip but it won't have any horsepower gain (ie, its a waste).
