'97, F150, ext cab, 5.4, 150K. Three - four months back transmission became very difficult to shift into or between ranges, thought it was due to rusty shift point at trany, greased them and it got a bit better, then couple months back, hit bump in construction zone just as I was reapplyng power and the transmission hic-cup several times like the torque Converter was cutting in and out, and the truck had very low power for 10 to 15 seconds. I took it out of OD, power returned and I drove home, (140miles), in 3rd, no codes or lights.
Then last week it began to hic-cup when going up a hill in OD or re-applying power after letting off gas. Out of OD is seemd a bit better but still hic-cuped. Then last evening it became quite bad and a check engine light blinked and became steady, code indicates misfire in #8.
I think the mis-fire is possibly a bad COP and as #1 plug blew in the summer, I know the sound of a blown plug, I also scearched the site and found reference to a TRS problem on a unknown truck unit, symptons not quite the same.
Questiom, I doubt the two are connected so what may be wrong with the Transmission?
Note, Fluid is full, clean, clear and red, no indication of being burned, never been changed. Truck sits out in Ohio 365.
I just replaced my #7 coil and mine was bumping along like i was driving over mole hills constantly until it got over 2000rpm but all the descriptions i read online said it could jerk about and surge and dip in power so start there
Update on Hic-cup/misfire. cleared code drove 1o miles, hic-cup happened several times and code set. #8 mis-fire. Now I have some time to work on her, any ideas on how to get access to #8 COP/plug that does not involve removing all hoses and fuel rail? replaced plugs 50K or so ago and had to remove fuel rail to get several COPs/plugs out.
