It looks to me like you may have read your VIN backwards. It should read something like F10JK415848. If that were the case, then F10 = F100 two wheel drive truck, J = 223 cubic inch I6, 1 bbl engine, K = built in Kansas City, and 415848 would mean it was built in May, 1963 and is a 1963 year model truck. If the six numbers are not in that order then whatever they are will determine the date it was built and what model year it is. Whatever the case, if it's a US built truck the VIN should start with F10 (or possibly F11, F25, or F26 if it's 4 wheel drive or an F250, for example). Canadian trucks from most of this era are identified differently. Also, if your model year turns out to not be 1963, then the "J" engine code might be for a different engine. Good luck.
SuperSabre. I belive you are right on the money, I guess we did read the VIN number backwards as we were trying to read it with a mirror while under the truck.
Thank you very much for pointing that out, now I can get started on getting another title for the truck and making the DMV happy in Texas.
There's a unibody sub-section with more information on the subject at the beginning of this section, highlighted in red. Since my truck is a '66 and not a uni, I'm not an expert on the subject. However, it's my understanding that the bed and cab will be one piece on a uni. If your bed is mounted to the frame separately from the cab it isn't. I'm sure Bill W or Garbz, or others will have more accurate info for you on your model year truck. Good luck with it.
1963 was the year where you could get 3 different body options..integral bodied, styleside seperate cab/box, flareside. They werent all available through the full model year..it was a phase in/phase out...the only constant was the Flareside and the 4WD body choices...
