A generic desktop icon showed up on my computer this morning - It was created after I went to bed
It is named 0.865142523525097 (dot) exe
I have turned my computer inside out searching for its location and it doesn't show up anywhere besides my desktop
A Google turns up nothing
I have not clicked on it except to check properties
HELP

Thanks

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com Here is a link to a download of Malwarebytes anti-malware. Download it and run it and get it to do a scan.
Do not download any of the other things on that page.

Ran a full scan on Malwarebytes - Current set of viruses also ran current Microsoft security essentials - They show everything clear.

Those things show up on my desktop from time to time, and there is no way to predict them. They have never caused problems, which is the weird part. Usually if I get something it's one of those stupid fake anti-viruses that screw with my proxy settings and disable the task manager etc.

You need to be careful with fake virus removal programs. There is one out called pc shield 2012 that really takes over your computer. My young son accidently downloaded onto my computer and it took control of everything. Supposed to scare you into buying their program but it was so effective you couldn't connect to their web site since your browsers were disabled. Operating under safe mode it took three virus/rootkit programs to get it out. What a royal pain as it was buried deep in the registry and was self replicating should you try to remove it by directly approaching it.

Some of the newer and more insidious viruses are Java-based - hackers embed them onto websites and they don't require user interaction, all they have to do is load and you're infected. Those cause more severe damage than many of the others I've seen out there. I picked one up simply by visiting a web-comic site.

Another problem with getting a virus infection is that, once your system has been compromised, there is no 100% solution for removing the infection - invariably, either remnants are left behind or the corruption is so deep-seeded that it will pop back up later on down the road. The only way to completely clean the system is to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch...
