E4od shifting problems, need help asap
1997 f250 crew cab e4od tranny with 185,000 miles on. Was pulling my camper home from hunting and the o/d off light started flashing, now the tranny is shifting hard. Checked fluid and it is not burnt. Got a scanner from sears and it says no codes, so I don't know where to turn now, any ideas?

Your scanner from Sears is likely not compatible with the truck. Especially if it is a cheap one. Sorry, buddy, but you wasted your money on that scanner unless you have other vehicles that are OBDII compatible. If your "O/D off" light was flashing, then your computer threw a code, you just have to find it using a compatible scanner.
It's shifting hard because it is in "Limp" mode, which was initiated when the computer sensed a problem.
As far as where to go from here, I would properly scan for codes, if I were you.

The O/D light flashing indicates a tranny specific code thrown. Any scanner not equipped with a vehicle specific module wont work. A SnapOn Solarus is what I ended up using.
Any brake light wiring can cause a torque converter slippage code. Make sure your brake light on the back of the cab works along with the others. Disconnect yohr batteries and drain the kernel memory. To reset. Your tranny could've just sensed a clutch slippage pulling uphill or other fault. Triggering the code and tranny limp mode causing awkward shifts.

Thanks for the I for the info guys. I took my truck to a transmission shop and was told that 4th gear is slipping causing the tranny to go into limp mode, so I guess now I need to figure out the best place to get a upgraded e4od or a manual tranny swap
