after i had my tires rotated at NTB there was a loud whining noise coming from the differential...turns out my pinion bearing is shot and now i need a new rear axle...is it possible NTB messed up my axle if they jacked it up under the center of the diff?
There was no noise before the rotation? Who diagnosed the rear end is toast. Are you sure the tires are not cupped? That'll make a howl. I would put the tires on the way they were before rotation and see if it quiets down.
considering tolerances are so tight +/- .001 i would think putting all the weight on the case might have tweaked something and caused my problem
Honestly you're really grasping here. It would take a tremendous amount of abuse to do enough damage to the diff housing to cause any pinion issues. As someone mentioned you "might" crush the cover enough to cause some rubbing on the ring gear, but to do anything to tweak the pinion? Not likely.
i have close to 4k lbs in the back so it not empty...didnt notice the noise before and all of the sudden it is so loud it hurts your ears to drive...the whining is echoed and magnified by the drive shaft all the way to the front...i had the rear end of the ground and the sound is definitely coming from the diff...pulled the cover and r&g look fine but parts plus labor would be wiser just to put a used axle
