New F150 XLT SuperCrew missing window!
i just purchased a new F150 XLT SuperCrew 4x4 and after examining the sticker line by line, I found that the truck was supposed to have a sliding rear window. It doesn't. I called the dealership and they have ordered a sliding rear window and will install it when it arrives.
I am a little concerned that the truck wasn't right to begin with.
Some have suggested that I take the truck back and demand a new one that doesn't have missing/incorrect parts.
I don't know whether to be satisfied with just a replacemnt window or not.
Any advice?
1) Ford made a mistake. Hey, it happens. Not too often, but it happens. The odds of anything else being wrong with this truck just because it got the wrong rear window are astronomical, so don't sweat it. As for "demanding a perfect replacement truck," do yourself a favor and ignore assanine advice like that. It only makes your case with the dealer just that much more difficult to argue. With "just in time" inventory, it may very well have been that the only window available when this truck was coming down the line was the non-slider. No big deal.
2) The window got broke after it left the plant (carrier? dealer?), and was replaced with the wrong window. Look closely around the bottom of the rear seat back for bits of broken glass.
Either way, the dealer should have no problem getting the right window. If their service department is less than stellar, and you have reservations about THEM installing the new one, you may want to insist that a highly-qualified glass shop do the work, one who's reputation you're familiar with.
Just bought an 03' F-150 4x4 V8 A/C Long Bed Std cab myself ...
and can TOTALLY relate to your deliema as I am a
FREAK for PERFECTION!!!
I had the dealer move the truck I was interested in
to a dry spot and started literally from the ground up
laying under the truck, looking for anything unusal like
damage resulting from transport ....
Then I go COMPLETELY over the body, using the sun light
to look for inconsistancies in the paint or ripples in the
body parts ...
Then it's under the hood to check all the fluids and
visible connections .. I check to see how accessable
things like spark plugs and the oil filter are ....
and then I finally get into the truck to make sure EVERYTHING
works, radio, A/C and I go over EVERY OPTION to make sure
they are not only there but are all in good working order ...
So when my sticker said 'slider' back window .. not only
did I make sure it had one but I opened and closed it a
few times to make sure it worked!!
I open and close the doors .. making sure that however
they close, that they are both the SAME ...
I check door seams and the hood seams to make sure
the spaces are EQUAL fotr the lenght on the seam ....
and then ... and ONLY then do I take it for a TEST RIDE!!
I have literally REJECTED DOZENS of vechicles in my 30 years
of driving .... bought a Taurus back in 93' ... but waited for
over a MONTH before I picked one out because the robotic
arm that put the rear passenger door on pressed it too
hard and put a wrinkle in the door ... I remember walking
down a line of 25 cars showing the dealer the same FLAW
on EVERY CAR .....
That said ... I'm not sure what I would do in your case ....
there's nothing like FACTORY INSTALLED OPTIONS .... and
the last thing you want is someone taking apart your
BRAND NEW $30,000 truck .... will it sqeak ... or whistle ...
will they 'Fu .. up' the paint or scuff up your interior in the
process ???
but it is just a WINDOW ... and has nothing to do with
the mechanical running of the truck .....
so as long as they are VERY CAREFUL and that's the
ONLY THING missing or wrong with your truck ... I guess
I would let them try to make it right .... because unless
you find MANY other things wrong and they can't fix
them in '3' tries, making you eligible for the LEMON LAW,
there's not much chance they will take your truck back
and give you another one just because of a missing slider
window ....
Happy motoring!!

I couldn't believe I was seeing that stuff on Ford trucks. What happened to "quality is job #1"? It's interesting that you guys have seen the same type of things. I guess Ford is trying to mass produce for the $$$ instead of focusing on quality as much as they used to. It's a shame.
But no, there is absolutely NO WAY I would drive off the lot in a $35,000 truck unless it was 100% flawless. If Ford wants to rape us with the sticker price of their trucks, then we should be able to expect pure perfection from them.
At least it is the back window and not a windshield. I have seen plenty of poorly installed windshields.
As he said. it happens.
We bought a new Aerostar in 96 and found out the next day that one rear sider window wasn't tinted. Service Dept mangaer started his hard line and said we prob broke it on the way home and had it replaced w/a junk yd window. This rant stopped when the salesman told the GM how many Fords we bought from him and the dealership.

Be VERY careful
I spent too much time in mine enjoying the "new smell", and ended up in the hospital.
One eye turned completely red, I got a severe rash and experienced a very ugly nasal discharge.
Six months later I'm still having trouble with strangers staring at my truck as I drive by................................very, very slowly.

I will say one thing though, the truck drivers who transport cars will very rarely be the one the cause any damage to any new/used car they transport seeing as how they are responsible for the car from the time they load it themselves until they unload it themselves from the trailer and park it on the lot.
karic, I'm curious...what made you buy a truck with a V10 in it?
hi, i'm in need of advice, so I thought I'd try here...
