Hello all.....I am restoring a 1940 Ford Pickup. On the dash between the defrost vent holes is what appears to be the cutout for an ashtray. It is definitely factory....not an aftermarket cutout job. It appears the cab may not be from a 40 Ford as the fender bolt holes do not match up....additional holes were cut to make it fit. Does anyone have any idea what year Ford put an ashtray in the dash of a pickup? It would have been between 40-47. If I can't locate an ashtray I will just weld it up and leave it at that.
Jarheadd87, welcome to the site, hopefully you can find the answer here.
The only ashtray I have seen, from the factory or Ford installed, was mounted under the dash, under the glove box. I've never seen one that was mounted on the dash up near the windshield. If you can get a pic of the hole in the dash that might help.
Here is a Factory Ash Tray, mounted to the left of the glove Box Door under Dash.
Also the 1940 Cab had a filler plate in the center of the Dash face with the Ford script on it.
Looks like it may have been used for a Radio.
