I don't know if anybody's worth a quarter billion, but if they're gonna pay him ...
He'll be able to extend his career being a DH, so the move to the AL made sense for him. They've got funny rules in the AL. Some players don't even need to own a glove.
At age 31, he's got at best 6 possibly good years left in him. So for 4 years they may be paying a deadbeat. So 100MM thrown away. And it is a no-trade contract!
Agree.
I'm still in the camp where I don't like paying for someone else's hero to become our hero.
There is something basically wrong for baseball to do that.
Farm system.
I'd much rather see MY guys develop.
Agreed that was my concern too.. okay for a few years he will be worth something, if he is healthy... but then you have a payroll anchor after that! CJ Wilson I like that part of the deal.. what a nice pitching rotation now for the Halos!
The Angels signed Mo Vaughn to a contract worth 80 million buckaroos. He had one good year, then several bad years, then retired. Meanwhile the Angels were still paying off his fat contract.
The worst trade the Dodgers made since they came to LA was when they traded pitcher Pedro Martinez to Toronto for infielder Delino DeShields.
DeShields LA batting average was barely above the Mendoza line, so fans and columnists alike started calling him Devoid of Dehit.
Mo Vaughn was a good hitter, but he wasn't no Albert Pujols....
Pujols is arguably the best & most consistent offensive player of his generation, and I think it's a good bet that even as his skills diminish with time it's gonna take a while for him to fall to even "average" status. It's always a gamble, but I think it's a good one in this case.
Can't overlook the fact that having his name on the roster is gonna put more butts in the seats and sell a lot of Pujols swag to the fans. It's a business, after all.
Albert should be good for the Angels. I would catch some home games when in SoCal to see him play.
They inked C. J. Wilson to a fat 77M contract yesterday too. Them Angels brass has got some cash.

All good points.
Hope butts in seats offsets a 1/4 billion.

Mo Vaughn also fought a weight issue, and was then traded to the Mets where he played uselessly for another season... Pujols has a few good years left, maybe 4 or 5, and then he can DH for a few years which will bring him close to the 10 yr period... the question is, is he worth 250 million? No ONE is! With CJ Wilson the angels will have a very strong pitching rotation... should be fun to watch!
