There should still be a sticky at the top of the page with pictures. Make sure you have voltage at the wires shown and clean the grounds real good, as grounds are one of the more common problems with this systems.

If you are saking where on the motor it is located, it is on the rear of the notor under the air cleaner housing on a nonturboed motor. On the factory turboed motor it is on the passenger side valve cover. The first link Snapon shows is the entire controler. the second link is just the relay that can be changed out on the controler. If you have a parts store near by (NAPA, ect.) ask for a GP109 glow plug relay, if you don't want to wait for shipping.

what about a test light?

"not unusual for my truck may take a few times it get the light to come on"
i would likely start by checking and cleaning the ground.

The sticky at the top of the page that was mentioned earlier explains how it works and how to check it. Read up then ask away if you have questions.

I do not recommend much from harbor freight, but for five bucks they have a good quality test light, they also have some junk ones.

I doubt if a wallmart voltmeter is of a good enough quality to test things like glow plugs.
If their testlights are like the ones they use to sell they had real cheap cords and clips on them.
