I have a 79 f150 that is only used to haul firewood and put a boat in and out of the river. IF I wanted to just wire it up with a toggle switch and a push botton start how would I do so? I'am having wireing problems and canot fix them and just want to make it start and run. I dont need lights or anything else.
Below is the wiring for the Duraspark ignition system that would be in your truck. Other than that, you'll just need to apply 12 volts to the 'S' post of the starter solenoid to get the motor to crank. You'll also need to wire up the battery, alternator, and voltage regulator.
The start bypass wire shown in the diagram is sourced from a separate switch pole, typically from the 'I' post of the starter solenoid. You don't want to tie it to the same signal that provides hot-in-START power to the ignition module, or the starter solenoid. That's why the switch in the diagram shows two separate poles for the START (S) position.
