I have a serious problem,I went out to start my bronco and the solenoid stayed ingaged and I had to pull the battery wire off to stop it.I replace the starter switch on the fender and the first start was fine.the next start it kept engaged trying to start even after I turned off the key.My question is, is the ignitoin switch causing this to burn out the solenoid and causintg it not to turn off.Now both the solenoids after this happened are burned up and by burned up I mean now after it gets stuck starting both sides of the solenoid are hot. I completely unhooked the solenoid and then hooked up only the battery wire and the starter side of solenoid has direct current from the battery.Would the ignition switch cause this or do I have another problem somewhere else.Any help is appreciated.Thanks and God BLess
It very well could be the switch since it controls the solenoid. Remove the switch and with a meter checking continuity, figure out if it is releasing itself. You will have to remove your steering column cover in order to access it, but then, disconnect the wire going from the switch to the solenoid, and turn the key with the meter on it to see if the output voltage goes to 12 when you turn to "start" and back to 0 volts when you release. If you dont have one, post back and I will post an image of the wiring for your truck. A diagram will be very helpful in this case.
Billybob69 if you could send the wiring diagram that would be great.I got another question instead of pulling the steering column couldnt I do the same test at the solenoid.I have it out so if I check the wire that supplies battery voltage and when you release the key it should show no voltage.I mean that would be alot easier than pulling the column.It should check the same out at the solenoid is at the ignition switch,or I would think it would.Let me know what you think

I had the same problem. Talk about frantic helplessness. You know its just destroying your starter and flexplate. It did on mine anyway. You don't have to actually pull the steering column out to replace the ignition switch. You undue the plastic cover, unbolt the support bracket and it will lean down enough to check or change your switch. Piece of advice too...only buy the Ford one, don't buy the cheap takeoff. I learned that the hard way.
