03 Exp. EB COPs

Every time it rains, my 03 Expedition Eddie Bauer COPs get wet and need to be replaced. Have slathered them good with grease, always change boots with COPs, springs look good and yes they are tightened to specs. Did we just get some really horrible replacement COPs off EBay or what? Husband is pulling his hair out. We just ordered another set from a EBay.

The Ebay COPS are suspect at best. I mean, let's face it, Motorcrafts are around $350 for a set, Ebay is $75. What should we expect, lol
I have used Ebay COPS's, and had a couple go bad over the first few months. It was enough, I just could not trust them.

Try Amazon for Accells, about $175 for a set. I think that is a nice compromise, and they look cool too,

MSD also makes some COPS, but their price is close to OEM.

I have had Ebay COPS on my 04 for 50k miles now. No problems with them. There are plenty of people on here that have had good luck with Ebay COPS.

I think the question you should ask yourself is why/how are your COPS getting wet when it rains? And is that the real reason they are going bad? Just seems weird to me. How many have failed in this manner? Any codes associated with this or are you just replacing COPS?

Those are worse, people have reported the plastic cases developing cracks.

And I can find just as many people that have had trouble, me included. It is a crap shoot. I have 7 in my Grand Marquis right now. Yes, 7, I put a used Motorcraft back, have not got around to putting in the 2nd replacement Ebay COP i just received. Free, but I have to go to the trouble of sending the bad one back, my expense.
A buddy that works in an independent shop where they used to offer Ebay COPS along side OEM. $100 for "aftermarket" , vs the whatever outrageous price for OEM. They quit doing it, because of the number coming back.

as for the ACCELLS;

That is the first I have heard of cracks. Over in the Crown Vic forums, most every one likes them, though some had said they are just a yellow version of Ebay COPS, lol
Never heard of any cracking at all.

I agree with alloro on the bad results with Accells. Mane people report very early failures with them. Far more than complain about off brands from Ebay. But then again it is better to look good than to feel good. I've got 4k on my first set of replacement COPs, no issues so far.

I also agree with the direction 89lx is headed. How do you know it is the COPs and not something else? I'd be more focused on other areas related to rain, leaks and electricity, like the p/s windshield which leaks right above the fuse box, or the potential you've got bad wires feeding the COPs.

And BTW a set of Motorcraft coils is more like $700

My last set for Motorcraft on my 2000 Navigator were $45 each, delivered.

So I was wrong, not $350, $360

If you look up Ford parts on line the coil lists at $75 and the boot $11 for the '03 Expy. Slightly less for the '00 Navi, $72 and no price for boots. My local dealer was getting $90 for the Expy coil with boots.

I got the 10 pack of Globals for $90 delivered.

Just had one of my ebay COP's go bad. I installed them almost 2 years ago and have maybe 15k on them. Had the local shop do the work as I was out of town and the bride didn't like driving it as it was. Not sure what brand they put in but commented that I may see more fail since they were an off-brand.

The last EBay seller we bought from had me a bit skeptical and we paid a little over $100 for the set of 8. He since hasn't sold anything on EBay. This time we bought from Global which I have seen a bunch of others on here buy from with no problems.

As far as Accel, I have heard numerous bad things about them.

We will see what this set does when we get them.

How about the issue itself....there are few questions out there to you to try and understand what is going on.

We have verified that the problem is the COPs. We have had 2 5.4l Exp's and know what to look for with the codes and what not. Just guess that other set of COPs was faulty.
