I have to agree with what has been mentioned, the torque converter has to go, to me it sound like the one way clutch stator has let go and now the stator is free spinning both ways so now you are not getting the torque multiplication in the torque convertor. What you can do is buy new or get your torque convertor rebuilt at a local shop. Locally I can rebuild my stock convertor with OEM stall with a multi clutch lock up for $300.
I've delt with plugged cats on ambulances with 7.3's and they cannot get out of there way over 50kph, the cat has nothing to do with it.
IMO, I know its alot of work, but if my trans was running/shifting good and I suspected it was the torque convertor, I would not screw around to much and chance it and destry the transmission, I would pull my transmission and have.....at the very least the torque convetor tested to see if it is good. If you got the mechanical apitude to pull the trans. your self, for the most part, all it will cost you is time.
Well I tested map sensor again today after I changed neutral safety switch. The turbo seemed a crap ton louder or am I just crazy!?? Weird smell in cab though. Any ideas fellas?
If possible can you explain why in cruse control the E4OD transmission will down shift out of OD on a hill, but will not down shift if I control the throttle on the same hill? Thanks PK.
When in cruise the truck will push the pedal faster/later when getting to the hill thus the downshifting occurs. Also lugging it much builds a lot of heat.
I was making sure I didnt have tank screens, I used to race motorcross and my bikes always had multi filters. So did that peterbilt. Why o why did caterpillar quit making truck engines. EPA!!!!!!!!!! Dang it
Ok next step im goibg to remove and clean it. Cause I ran it to bottom of tank and sucked up trash in filter.
If the screen plugs up then it will draw fuel through another opening on the fuel pick up.
As per owners manual, its says in winter driving do not drive under 1/4 of a tank because if there is water in the bottom of the tank and freeze at your screen, it will draw from the opening high above the screen at 1/4 tank level.
You can try cleaning it but I dont see much point IMO.
I wasn't aware that there was another opening in the pickup tube. I will have to go home and check out the one I pulled form the parts truck now. You learn something new every day I guess!
Have you had the cruise control recall done? They splice in wires at the master cylinder. FIRES have started at that connection you are talking about, with the truck off, so get that done FIRST if you haven't
Where can you look on the truck to see if that recall has been done and see those spliced wires are there? And what exactly would it look like.
When cruising if I use my right turn signal it cancels cruise. Not when I use left...only right. Thought maybe the Multifunction switch could be bad?
Good info in this thread all around. My truck is having this similar symptoms of way more shifts than it should..lol I am pretty sure its the TC for me since my batteries are new and all connections are good..or im pretty sure they are all good since I have 0 other problems via electrical...except that weird cruise thing.
Im not sure if my tranny/TC are stock... the guy who I got it from said it had a 'shift kit' installed, but other than that was stock. In the stack of paperwork he gave me i couldnt find or decipher any sort of transmission work other than flushes.
I believe you can tell just by popping the hood. There should be an extra length of wire connected to the electrical switch on the master cylinder. Mine were just wire-tied off to something and had a blue tag on the harness. It essentially just adds a couple fusible links to the circuit.
