Carburetor Problems

I was looking in my carb(edelbrock 4bbl) with the truck turned off and saw that the right front side would spray fuel like crazy and the left side just dribbled. How do i fix this. The rear two barrels don't spray fuel usually do they?

You have a clogged squirter. The accelerator pump empties through the squirters. The main jets/metering rods are different. The carb kit is $50. Take the top plate off and squirt carb cleaner through it until it's clear. Clean out the float bowls, etc. Replace the accelerator pump and reassemble. You usually can't see the secondaries dump fuel. If you dump the throttle and the you see the secondary plates move AT ALL, they're working as they should. You won't get a lot of movement out of them without a load on the engine. Just enough to verify operation.

How hard is rebuilding a carb like that for a somewhat novice mechanic? My engine pops alot on deceleration. I have a big exaust leak. Is that what is causing it or is it due to running too rich? Thanks

I recommend completely disassembling the carburetor and soaking it, to do a proper rebuild. Usually just removing the top and doing a "spray and pray" just moves the dirt and varnish around, only to get stuck somewhere else.

A carburetor rebuild is very in reach for anyone starting to work on trucks and is a great learning experience. Take your time and keep track of everything.

Popping on decelleration can mean a vacuum leak.
