I guess if they sit for 15 years there will be weekly problems unitl the bugs are worked out. I have fixed everthing you guys have suggested and the 65' is running great with the exception of having new trouble starting. I put a new starter on like a couple of you suggested and that totally fixed the starting problem. She starts great from a cold start with a bit of choke. However, after I have driven it and it is warm it does not want to start, turns over fine but seems like it is flooded or does not get gas. Another problem probably causing the hard start is there is a leak in the carb. The carb leaks-dripps out the bottom of the carb in the very front. I cannot tell where or why. I am going to take the top of tonight and see if I can see but maybe you guys may have an idea.
The leak is on the bottom directly in the front of the carb and only leaks after I dirve it and it is warm, or the carb bowl is full. It stops after a little bit, any ideas?

Reason: spelling
Ditto Prostocks suggestion. If the truck has been setting for long period of time may want to purchase a rebuild kit. Possibly combination of bad gas, and dislodged gunk causing some of the problem. Was some time ago, but as a first timer at carb rebuild I posted topic in the 'injection and carb' forum and received helpful suggestions. If decide to rebuild, suggest run search under carb rebuild and narrow search to the fuel sys. forum. Found it was not that difficult, can of carb cleaner for soaking, couple cans of aerosol carb cleaner, and if do not have compressor, perhaps can of the aerosol compressed air, type used for blowing dust from elect. components, and had to purchase a 49 cent 'clutch type' bit to remove accelerator pump but it was for a holly 4bl. Finally, if have not already done so, install an inline fuel filter, installed a canaster type on inner fender, but any type would work.

I'd put a carb kit in it, but I have also been able to find the pump diaphragms sold seperately at better auto parts stores. You may need to take the old one in to match up.
If you do a rebuild or just replace the diaphram, chaeck to make sure the accel pump cover is not warped from overtightenng the screws, easy to do and the thing will never seal right again...common on Holley's but the same applies to yours. You can carefully file it flat for a remedy.
LOL, I have a carter YF with the same problem. Did the rebuild on Sunday and she seemed fine till today... Started leaking again so I called my buddy in Cal. He said the YF's are nortorious for developing a hairline crack where the fuel inlet is. The fitting is a tapered fit and over time loosens up, so it gets tightened. After a while it gets too tight and cracks inside. When the carb gets hot enough, the metal expands allowing the fuel flow to bypass the needle and seat and thereby over filling the bowl. I'll bet yours is leaking from the bottom at the "pump lifter link" as mine is. The only soultion is to replace the top of the bowl (if you can find a good one) or replace the carb. I heard there was a "Carb Guru" here in town so I'll be calling tomorrow to see what he can recommend. I'll also be looking for ANY carb that will fit my 66. Don't care if it's a 1 or 2 barrel as long as it bolts up and doesn't leak, LOL.
Good luck!
Ok,
I looked at it again last night but did not have time to take it apart. I let the truck run to find the leak again and I saw now where it leaks out of the back too. So I may be getting a new carb too. And can't drive the truck now, I really don't want to be on the news.
LOL, took mine apart again tonight. No crack, but I did find a piece of the fuel line had broken off and lodged itself in the needle. If you haven't changed your rubber fuel line yet, you might want to.
I have the same problem with my Autolite 2100...after sitting a yr under cover no less...carb front gaskets on the accel. pump. and the diaphram(?) wrere peeing like a baby who just had a full bottle...leaking fuel, I have deducted that thats also why its hard starting as its not keeping the pressure at the carb to start it...Im awaiting my kit...22.00 for a Motorcraft kit...dealers can get them...I priced it out @ 38 clams... kit number is CT499D...funny thing is...I called the dealer and asked for a carb kit by application...was told its too old...blah blah blah...got kit number, called a cpl days later....wow...amazing...I guess its not too old...I so hate it when a guy at the parts counter doesnt wanna look something up cause its too old...
I realize prolly 98% of the parts for our trucks are obsolete from Ford...but if a guy has a part number or the application and accurate part name, whats so hard about looking up something...especially a carb kit that was used on a wide range of cars and trucks...I know ND will most likely chime in and I very much welcome his input on it...
But thats the kit number...again...if you have the Autolite 2100 carb on yours...
