A Carb question?

I'm running a '63 2 bbl 4 bolt autolight. Motor is 292 in my truck and lately if it sits for a month or so the carb is empty and before if I poured some gas down the carb it would start and run but now I have to take off the carb top and fill fuel bowl. Have any of you had this happen? Do you think I need to rebuild it? Once it starts it's good no repeat of problem unless it sits for too long. Any ideas would be great.

Kurt, I too am running an Autolite 2100 and had some issues when I first bolted it on. I rebuilt it and now things work great. My pump body and needle/seat were the big issues with mine. Easy rebuild.

The gas evaporates after a few days of sitting. If you can't start it by cranking it over, your fuel pump may be weak or loosing it's prime. An electric fuel pump may solve this.
If it won't start by pouring fuel down the carb, you may have a vacuum leak. But then it would not run very well either.

Fuel pump is only about 40 hrs old, that's like 3 to 4 yrs in truck life, Hahaha. Truck runs like clockwork the only problem is low oil pressure when hot. I'm gonna rebuild carb and see if it works, if not then
