CCV INFO NEEDED

hey guy's, talked to clay today and got my 6637 on the way with some other goodies but told me he did not have a ccv kit for my 97 i wanted to do that as well i figured yall would know what i needed to pick up at the parts store so i don't have to spend alot of fuel driving back and forth getting everything thanks for any info

What are you wanting to do to the CCV? Just new o-rings or are you venting it to atmosphere and eliminating the CCV in the intake?

I know the large o-rings are 1-1/4" ID x 1-1/2" OD, Can't remember the ones on the screws. Just take one of the small ones with you and match it up. Look in the plumbing section at your local hardware store.

Or you can get them for less than 5 bucks through Bob at dieselo-rings.com

wanted to put it out under the truck i had looked at the info at riffraff and i see what it is supposed to look like installed but was trying to find out what parts i would need to make it work on my 97 clay said the intake tube size was diff than the one he sells or does someone else sell the kit made for these trucks

I've found catch cans on eBay for around 50 bucks.

Do yourself a favor and don't run a catch can. Easy way to cause to much crank case pressure and leak oil out of all your seals.

i thought that is what it was and i agree no other diesel i have has anything like that and i have seen that tube get pinched and blow the dipstick out of a tractor thanks clay will be back soon to get more!!

Very easy to do- just turn the CCV dog house around, use new orings when reintalling or it will leak. Twist the 90 degree fitting upwards to about a 45 degree angle, insert a heater hose coupler, connect either 3/4" heater hose or fuel line and extend it either straight down,
or run it out towards the back of the truck. Be careful to avoid any low spots
that can collect fluid and restrict the air flow. This can cause excessive in the
engine. Plug the hose connection on the intake tube. Clay has some very good instructions for his CCV kit that can be adjusted for the OBS trucks.

Just to add another idea.

I have mine vented right next to my 6637 filter. I used 3/4 heater hose and ran it to the filter where I tied it to the filter mesh. I attached a cheap Mr. Gasket valve cover breather to the end at the 6637. The intake still sucks the fumes right through the filter so no fume smell in the cab and I don't have any oil messes.

Been running it for about 1500 miles now with no problems. I can get pictures if anyone wants, its not the prettiest but that wasn't what I was going for.

I understand why everyone says "turn the dog house around" on the valve cover.

I tried this and the 90* fitting would hit the fire wall. Not sure if my truck is different, but there was no way it would fit.

So I left it in the stock position, facing forward, and put the 90* fitting on and ran the hose down under the brake lines and junk. You can't see it because the intake pipe is above it.

Also, with this "vent to atmosphere" concept.... it freakin smells. And every once in a while I will be standing next to the truck and there is a fog coming out the hose. But only once in a while.

But the smell.... gross.

Has your truck ever been wrecked King? The CCV housing shouldn't touch the firewall. The smell is the reason a lot of guys run the hose as far back as possible. Your oil brand can change the smell too. When I ran Motorcraft oil in my SD it stunk to high heaven, switched to Rotella and the smell all but went away.
Catch cans, when done right, can work, but they MUST be vented back to atmosphere and then you have to worry about draining them all the time. Since I'm not intercooled I haven't messed with the CCV mod on this truck, not sure which approach I want to take.
FWIW, the IH trucks that had the 7.3's were vented to atmosphere.
