ok im still working on getting the body i want, and im doing pretty good. now i want to start focusing more towards my abs.
should i do situps or crunches, and about how many?
i just did 40 crunches with my knees bent, feet flat on the ground, hands crossed over my chest, 40 crunches straight forward, then 20 crunches side to side, then 20 forward, and 20 more side to side. this sound ok? im going for a six pack stomache even though i work on the 24 pack stomache on the weekend
but i quit drinking pop and eating greasy food so i think this should work for me. any tips? i like to do workouts that are easy on my back, i hate back pains and im sure all of you do also
Do Various leg lift exercises too. like hold your legs straight out 6" off the ground for 20 to 30 seconds then spread them out and back and do some reps like that. Then 6" off the ground and lift them up. all sort of things you can do for resistance. all so get like you are gonna do a push up but on your elbows with you hands out in front and hold your back straight and just hold it for a minute or more.
From what I understand and have learned the hard way is now matter how many sit ups and what not you do you will never get a six pack unless you eat right. that is one things i have never learned to do or had the desire to do.
I'm assuming you've got a "spare tire" which will have to go b4 you can work on your 6-pack. All the crunches and sit-ups will do is make your stomach bigger, you are not burning any fat from that area of the body, but are still building muscle underneath it, making your stomach look bigger.
Anytime you do an ab workout, if the abs are not burning, forget it. Sit-ups are no good, you don't work the abs enough. Crunches are better, but still difficult. I like the ab roller for beginners, works nice but theres no way to add resistance once you start getting some stronger abs. Try to keep your abs tight the whole time, don't do a crunch and on the way back down relax. You should do 4 sets of straight, rest for a minute inbetween. Then do one side, than the other, 4 sets each. You also shouldn't be able to do crazy numbers of reps, if you can, you know your not working the abs like you should be. Also, go slow, don't go fast because momentom ruins it. You should always let them burn, and burn as much as you can. The burning is a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles, it's not harmful, it's good. You can also get them to really burn, stop for 10 seconds, and attack them again. You should do your abs everyday at the same time. That book I talked about will give you tons of abs work-outs. But remember, you don't want to go crazy or you'll be wasting your time. You can only do so much in one day.
Pfogle- i dont have a spare tire, i actually have a fairly fat stomache. BUT- it DOES look like i have love handles when i have my shirt off, even though theres no thick layer of fat just my hip bone. i hate that.
Mustang- i do them til they BURN... i guess i have been pretty good at pushing myself to the limit lately.
thanks for the advice everyone, this seems like the one and only place i feel comfortable asking about this topic. thanks agan.
