Coolant additive message

The "check coolant additive" message came on yesterday (13500 miles approx). Is this just a programmed message that comes on at a certain mileage to let us know its time to check, or is there an actual sensor detecting some kind of low level? I'm guessing its just a reminder message, in which case I have some time to get it checked.

It is just a maintenance reminder. The computer calculates when to test on a combination of idle time, run time, and regens. Just like it calculates when to change the oil.
