This is pretty easy....

Remove the wiper ****:

Remove the headlight **** + stalk, there is a mechanical button on the switch assembly itself, you need to reach your hand up into there and push it while you pull the **** off:

Similar to this:

Remove the dash gauge cluster trim, the piece of plastic trim beneath the steering column, you'll see a piece of aluminum bracket held onto the column with I believe 4 bolts or nuts (10MM I believe) and there are I believe two (might be 4) bolts holding that aluminum piece + column to the dash assembly; remove those two and the column should drop into your lap, making the switch easily accessible (the switch might also be 10MM but I don't remember for certain).

Ignition switch is not going to make the engine "drag" when starting.

The starter and solenoid. I've read so many times on this forum that the solenoids you get now are cheap POS. Try a different solenoid. That may fix your issue.

Use a small piece of wire and jump 3 & 5 in the diagram, this will activate the starter solenoid just like you had turned the key.

Is the starter still dragging? Most likely it is but do this test and report back.

I would suspect either a battery cable OR its connections, or the cable from solenoid to starter, or the starter is drawing too much power.

You can take the truck to Wal Mart or Sears and ask them to do a current test on the starter, this will tell you how much power it's pulling.

Could also be your ignition timing is just tooooooo far advanced (but the DSII module should help correct for that on startup).
