Question Questions about changing ignition switch

Has anybody every changed out their ignition switch? Do I need any special tools? I found a sight online about changing one on a Mustang and they said that you need a special T-27 tamper resistant torx bit. It is one of the torx bits that has the hollow center? I just wanted to know if I should get one of the bits before I take the column and everything apart.

Thanks,

I thought that I would post it in this forum also, even though it is not a truck. I figure they are very similar.

are you talking about the ignition tumbler or the switch that is under the dash down low on the steering column. if you are talking about the switch you dont need to take apart the steering column because the switch is piggyback on the column behind the dash about halfway between the firewall and the dash panel. and yes you will need a tamper proof torx to remove it. becareful when removing the electrical connectors as they maybe brittle and check them for heat damage because they may need to be replaced also.
