Electical problem?

Hi Guys,

I've read through several pages hoping to find someone that has had a similar issue and a solution, but I didn't see anything so I'm asking for your help! I have a 2002 4X4 limited 7.3L PS. A while back my door locks started actuating on their own, and the horn honked a really short burst a couple of times. I also noticed the backlight for the keyless entry pad was flickering without me having touched it. The next day the keyless enty, the remote lock/unlock, panic button and electric door locks inside the truck and the auto-on headlight sensor all stopped working. The door adjar light stays on, as does the stereo even when I turn the truck off and open the door. I took it to a mechanic and spent several hundred on "diagnosis" and he could not figure it out. One very strange thing is that when I disconnect both batteries for a short time the door locks work from inside again, and the keyless entry fickers, but this on;y lasts a couple of hours. Any ideas? Could the RAP be bad? ECM? HELP!

Check for water leaking from around the windshield and corroding the fuse block or the PCM connection. Not sure if it is in the same place as on the V10 so I could be off base but this would be the first place I'd start.

I had seen some mention of that before, so that's one of the first things I looked for. I just went and checked again for sanity's sake and there is no evidence of water leakage anywhere under the dash. I have tried re-seating all of the fuses as well as many of the connectors, re-cleaned the battery terminals, all with no effect. I'm just glad it has no impact on the driveability of the truck!

Well after much investigation I was leaning towards the GEM being bad (I read in a few places that the 02 doesn't have a GEM, but it does, it's behind the glove box). I purchased a new one swapped it out yesterday and there was no change so that wasn't it. Luckily I have a friend who gets Ford parts for cost plus 10% so it was under $200 out the door. Now I'm leaning back towards the PCM so unless someone here has any better ideas I am going to have to order that next...

Kerbking, did you ever find a solution to your problem? My 02 Ex seems to be suffering from the same symptoms.

Yeah, it turned out to be the VSM. Changed that out and all is well.
