Major Oil Leak

I need some help and or advice. This all started after I changed the oil weekend before last. Decided to do it myself this time to save some money. Noticed that when i had it changed last the shop didnt use an OEM filter and put a wix on it. I had already drained the oil and put the new oil in when discovered the problem. Had to order a new cap for the motorcraft filter. Recieved from the local O'rielly the next day. Installed new filter and cap. Ran it and checked pressures and levels everything was good. I hadn't drove it for a few days, went out in the morning started it up to warm up. Came out to leave 15-20 minutes later and there was a puddle oil under truck. I thought i didnt get the cap tight on the filter. Pulled off and discovered there was no oring on it. I thouhgt there was one it already and didnt put the one on that comes with filter. So I parked it til this last weekend. Got a new filter and replaced installed the oring. Now the oil is coming out even more. It appears to be coming from the back more on the driver side than the passenger but its running down at a good rate. Any suggestions?

The tech folder "Fix Any Oil Leak" is a good place to start.

As you probably know, just because the leak is showing up in the back does not mean it originates there. The write up helped me with several leaks.

Good Luck.

If it didn't leak prior to the filter change, you know where to start. If you got the cap from O'Reilly's, it isn't a factory cap. Is the filter a Motorcraft?

Yes the filter is a motorcraft fliter thats why i needed the cap. I checked all that cap and its not coming from there. thats why i"m confused as to where its coming from.

Does it appear to be coming from around the base of the filter housing ? Does it only "run" when idling? Not drip but actively leak I mean ?

With the motor running look behind the oil filter housing at about 11 o'clock . There is a sensor that has 1 wire coming out of the connector (EOP) if it's bad it will be pushing oil through the connector and you will be able to physically see it.

See post # 10 by Benny in the link I gave you above.... The pic is with the filter housing removed but it's the white sensor... You'll be able to see it with a flashlight.

On a side note.....would that sensor cause a not start condition if failing?

Nope.... All it does is ground out at 7psi oil pressure and makes your dash guage read normal.

Well...... And leak
