ok now for a couple of weeks now i have noticed a small amount of oil around and on my oil filter housing, my question is if it is real cold outside 0-15 degrees will my oil be thick enough to blow past the o ring on the filter cap?i unscrewed the cap and checked the o-ring and it looks fine? but after wiping up the small amount of residue a few days later it has appeared again, on filter housing , cap and on the intake manifold? im looking in the right direction arent I?oh ya im running 5-40 syn...
If it's coming from the cap it's either the oring nicked, cap not tight, or cracked.
cold weather will make the oil thick, but thick oil would be less likely to squeeze thru
a crack. My guess would be a nicked oring or just not tight enough.
If its just wet forget it. Mine on my 05 has done it for sometime now. If its a sure enough leak, replace the cap if you found nothing wrong with the o-ring. You can get the billet cap, it wont wear or flex like the plastic one.
I had the same problem.I bought a new cap for $55.Didn't help.Changed the filter and O ring several times.Took it to the Ford place, had them do it.Still a little oil around the filter and on the bottom of the hood.I usually drive like a little old lady and mine only showed up when I pulled something heavy. Finally found a post on this forum about blowby oil accumulating and dripping out around the fitting above and in front of the oil filter housing. Finally decided that was the deal with mine and forgot about it.
thanks for the replies guys, guess i could change the filter and o ring comnsidering my plethera of $3.50 oil filters... i dont need an oil change for another 2k miles so ill keep an eye on it!
