I ground tons of slugs out of the parts truck with just a standard grinding wheel on a 4" angle grinder. Doesn't take too long if you're not afraid of a spark shower. Good safety glasses, a pair of leather welding gloves and a long sleeve shirt and you can make pretty short work of them.
Ok fellas, I got the Dana 60 in! I need to get some longer brake lines today to finish it, but the rest is pretty much done. Sits almost level, one inch higher in front than in the rear, and that's with a 4" block in back and springs from a '87 F350.
Here's how it looks (sorry for bad quality pic, I'll post better ones when I put up my new install thread)
Looking good! Get that thing out of the garage and back onto the road where it belongs, then let us know how you like the D60. I think you're going to like it (except for the turning radius or lack thereof, and maybe the ride....).
It rode pretty rough to begin with, I don't mind a rough ride in a truck, and I'm used to the huge turning radius, it was worse when it was still a dually.
I'm getting new brake hoses for it but I think I'll still need to move the lines down on the frame to make sure I have enough slack. The hoses on it now just barely reach and from what I have seen the 4x4 hoses are the same length as the 2wd ones. I'll figure it out.
I thought about that Dave, but I don't really want to spend $100 on them right now. I kept the little hose brackets from my '87 so I can move them down pretty easily.
That should work too. Yeah, those longer hoses weren't cheap. I just closed my eyes and pressed buynow. Mind you, then I had to tell the minister of finance.......

Yeah, the minister of finance in my house is already on me about the last minute parts I had to pick up to complete everything. Maybe later on I'll get some braided hoses, but for now I can just move the lines down lower and put on the new stock 4x4 hoses.
