well thanks to this site and everyone here i tackled my project of rebuilding my fuel bowl and changing my fuel pump. all went well today in the removal process, i went and bought my new pump from napa 110.00 my only question is is that tappet suppose to be able to be pulled out? i ask only cause i'm a little unclear as to how the mech. part of this works, i understand the cam pushes the tappet causing the pump to work but.... i guess i don't fully understand..??
Thanks guys!
When i changed my pump i could pull my old an new tappet out then went to two parts stores and pulled the one's out of two other pumps just to make sure i didn't have a bad pump
I knew that it was possible for the tappet to fall out and end up in the block (that's why you unbolt it then turn the engine over by hand until it lifts off the block) but I just though that was a symptom of a worn out pump. Good to know. Thanks for setting me straight Mike.
thank guys.. i didn't even think about messing with the tappet till i was at the parts store.. thought i would ask...when i pulled my old pump i messed with a bit and pushed the tappet up and down and it threw fuel out at me through the weep hole.. although i never was able to get my crappy mirror to a place i could see it spiting while running i can only assume that may have been a factor of my fuel leak..?
Yep, def don't want to let the tappet fall in. From personal stupidity it is a royal pain in the A$$ to get out of there!!
I was able to use a small, strong, telescoping magnet and pull it out after a million tries . Not sure, but I don't think it can go anywhere except for being directly under the camshaft.
