Well, I finally decided to put new Monroe top line shocks on my 1987 F250HD - and boy was I surprised! It made such a huge difference in ride and handling it was hard to believe. Of course the fact that the truck is well beyond 250,000 miles and has not had new shocks in over ten years might have had something to do with it.........
So if you've been putting off the expense and have old shocks on your rig - don't! The ride, handling and control over unimproved roads really improved dramatically!
I looked at Bilstein and Rancho. Both more money for the models I wanted, and I had used HD Monroes years ago and liked them. And NAPA/Monroe had a 1 free with 3 offer....
I was not disappointed - the truck may bounce once crossing a bridge joint, and then it quickly settles and you are completely in control again. It felt like a new truck despite over 250,000 miles! Noticable better control on icy roads - less bounce really matters on ice.
Last I knew, the Monroes are US Made, and I am really trying to buy American made when I can, even at 20% more, if need be. I am an old gear head, but I had forgotten the important control good suspension parts give you. F250HD
