No matter how many posts you read or how many pics of cut open filters you see.... It cant prepare you (or me atleast) for the CRAP that you get out of your 500 mile (first) filter change on a new coolant filter (Pics to follow)
I havent even cut up my filter yet but i drained it into a mason jar and let it sit overnight and there is probably 1/4 " of muck that settled to the bottom. appears to be mainly sand but man o man.....
My truck has 112K on the clock , bout 700 miles on a new oil cooler.EGR delete, and new gold coolant (soon to be ELC)
It blows me away that all that being said theres still so much junk in there
Guess that goes to show its never too late for a coolant filter to help a brotha out
Cool, would like to see them. I put a filter on mine a few months ago. I got a couple of tablespoons of sand out of the bottom of the radiator when I dropped the coolant. My 500 mile filter change was surprisingly clean though. The element felt gritty when I cut it open and maybe a teaspoon of sand in the bottom, that was it. I was surprised as my delta hangs around 12*. Guess my oil cooler has snagged most of the trash already.
I would have thought that awesome shop you just had the truck at would have flushed it a little more thuro guess not I dont know if any shops spend alot of time flushing like some of these trucks need
My first oil cooler was probably 95% cloged with sand I must have flushed it 35 times even stuffeds the hose in it for awhile at the diffrent ports and did some reverse flushing and so far my filters been coming back clean.

Im guessing most dont ?I actually asked why they even put "gold" back in them instead of something "better" and he said (which I guess makes sense from a business standpoint) that they use ONLY motorcraft fluids for liability purposes..... Im a Rotella T6 guy soits killing me that its got the Motorcraft dyno in it right now
I dont think that the Ford Gold stuff is all that Bad, Take my oil cooler for example the Gold coolant had nothing to do with it it was casting sand that got it
I always recomend to folks thats getting ready to change an oil cooler out to take the time and do there own flushing Being your truck folks will take some pride in it and get it cleaned out GOOD so theres not a repeate problem so there not in a psosition that your in now a new oil cooler thats filling up with casting sand
Hows your spread looking hope its still ok

4-7...... Hasnt changed.....Do think I need a new thermostat though.(LOVES that 188 ECT mark) when its all warmed up with the CC set at 69,its pegged at 188/193.
188 heck thats right on IMO Doesnt the Edge stuff only report in 2 degree increments anyway
I noticed my ECT was running 172-175* today Im due for a thermistate for shure
Dont get a AutoZone DuraLast thermistate when you do get one I put mine in when I changed that oil cooler 5 months ago and 172-175* ECT is where its at now Not very impressed. I was on a parts run and went to the dealer for a thermistate and a few other things and they was out of stock on thermistates that day so thats how I ended up with the AZ JUNK
Sand..... ive got it draing through a coffee filter as we speak,so Ill post some pics after I disect the filter
Well..... Finally found time to dissect my filter and now I'm
More convinced that what's in there is more "goo" than sand ?
Is this "goo" a byproduct of the gold coolant ? Either way next week I'm doing a non chemical flush (don't have the testicular fortitude to risk my new cooler) but gonna run as much distilled water as it takes to run clear and replace with fleetguard ELC.
