Sheez. Them are a bunch of pencilheads at that store you went to.
For a 390FE, it can be as simple as a Pertonix module (Ignitor I, II, or III), or a full electronic distributor like an Accel Street Billet, Mallory Uni-Lite, or MSD Pro-Billet.
Head on over to Jeg's or Summit Racing and look around. You'll find 'em.
Just ask for a dizzy for a 76 with a 390. Thats what i did for my 70 along with the module. I had no core to trade, so I spent less than $120 and now have the Duraspark II in my truck and works great.
DuraSpark Electronic Ignition introduced in 1974, but not all vehicles had it until 1976.
The same modules were used on Passenger Cars, Trucks, Bronco's and Econolines. There is no specific I-6 or V8 F100/350 module, only the years the module was used apply.
The module used 1974 is 1974 only / The module used 1975 is 1975 only.
1976/79: Three different modules were used, two were CA only. 1977/79 CA: Red & 1979 CA: Brown.
Modules have a colored plastic square used to ID them, it's located above where the wires feed out.
The blue module is the one to use, the others were so crappy, Ford techs referred to DuraSpark as NeverSpark!
1976 and into the 1990's: 1U2Z-12A199-AA (replaced D9VZ-12A199-A, D8VZ-12A199-A, D6AZ-12A199-A) .. Ignition Module blue (Motorcraft DY-893).
