good morn Gig and Fte
crisp and cold here and its another spare the air day which means No wood burning. Do you have this up there Sparky? Gigs?
Come Christmas regardless I will have both fireplaces lit, tradition.
Have a great day
Good Morning all of FTE. We have spare the air days here in beautiful downtown Burbank...I mean Fresno. However, since this house does not have a fireplace, and I never burn wood, it does not affect me, unless of course I breathe the air.
I've run the gamut as far as heating source is concerned. Probably did 20 + years (Winters) of dealing with wood heat. Tan Oak, Madrone, Pepperwood, cut them all. Split them all. Pepperwood (Bay Laurel) is tough to split, mighty stringy.
I now use a Propane stove. Heats the house pretty good...Not the same as wood, but certainly easier...I don't have to move, split, stack, or re-stack another two or three times. I just turn up the thermostat and open the wallet.
Opening the wallet reminds me of the one month I used a space heater to heat my bedroom one month. When the $90 gas bill came the next month, I turned off the heater. Our normal gas bills were between $40-45.
Sparky, have you considered pellet stoves? Costco has a good price on pellets out here. Well, not here cause there aint no Costco, but the nearest one is in Carson City, Nevada and their price is pretty darned good for pellets. I still use wood, but will probably eventually go to pellets. Right now I like the fact that I can still heat my house without electricity (since pellet stoves need elec to work). We get some nasty power outages out here and it gets pretty cold. But some day, I'm gonna put up the chain saw and wood splitter for good. Propane is very expensive.
Feels like we're in for a weather change...Still a bit cool out there, 34 degrees at the moment.
I considered installing a pellet stove, but decided against it because you still had to buy pellets, and you still have the mess, like wood. There's still the danger of chimney fire, and you have to clean it once or twice a season.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with propane...I'm on my 8th or 9th season with using it for heat and cooking, and by far the best thing about it is convenience.
I still get to split some wood every spring when we clean up from winter.
Hope you have a great day...Oh Yeah, Merry Christmas!!
Good Morn No. Cal
Moms got a pellet stove and she has the house toasty all winter. Buys about 2 pallets a year so that should give ya an idea how much she burns.
Nope, no word, and I am relieved, as mentioned earlier, I don't know if I would have made any money at that job anyway (100% commission). However, I found out today that the company I worked for from 2006 to 2008 needs 200 people by the end of January, so I tried applying today and ran into a computer problem, I called them, and they are looking into it. If I can get back with that company my financial troubles will be over!
