problem with CCV mod.Oil out turbo
#16
Hey Chund,
maybe it is something really simple. Like your catch can got full, then the CCV pressure blew the CC sludgy oil up the return pipe, which you have observed, into the air intake. Some of this oil could have worked it's way past the Y pipe clamps. This oil build up might also explain your puff after long idle.
All you might need to do is clean your IC and IC hoses up and start running your CC vented for awhile to see if the problem goes away.
Personally I did not like the idea of having the CCV vented straight to the atmosphere, so I made a large CC, filled it with stainless steel wool, then vented that. I was hoping that the SS wool would catch a lot of the aerosol oil coming out of the CCV tube.
From an environmental perspective, although it is theoretically better to recycle this oily CCV out air back into the inlet manifold, in practice I though the loss of efficiency of an oiled up IC and the resultant increase in fuel usage would end up balancing out the environmental gain of not venting the CCV to the atmosphere, so I vented my truck's CCV CC set up.
Hope it works out OK for you!

I reckon you are right Simon. That slight kink I had in the line from the doghouse most probably upset the system. The oil in the return line was quiet thick which indicates its been there for a while. I now have the hose venting under the truck and smoke is coming out of it so that side of it is working. Just did a 80km trip around town and there was no more puff of smoke after sitting at the lights. I will keep an eye on it for a couple of days and if all is good I will hook it up back to the CC. Will let you know.

It doesn't take much at all for it to blow oil through your seals in the turbo.
Is there any pressure coming from the CCV line? If there is not then it is plugged somewhere. You are not going to see much oil coming out your CCV anyways. If it is plugged then the crank case has to be venting through the turbo or else ware.
I would just take your CCV hose and loop it up and then down and exit it right behind the motor. The loop up keeps most the oil from coming out the end. Having it close to the motor enables the engine fan to dissipate it all over the place and you won't smell as much. Get rid of the catch can. It just makes it too easy for something to get plugged. Mine loops up and there is not a drip of oil that comes out of mine.
