Anything smaller than 16.5 wont fit!

Pretty much what the title says.. BUT i recently bought a 1978 460 f250 and I'm trying to get rid of the 16.5 wheels so i can buy new tires and i tried putting a 16 inch on it and it was getting held up by the caliper. Not sure what do do. Anyone run into this?

It doesn't hit the caliper by much. Shave it down where it's rubbing and you should be fine. Of course you could always go up to 17 or 18 inch wheels too.

I've done this on Chevys. 8 lug 15" wheels (yes, they make them) don't fit over the calipers, so you have to shave the calipers a bit. No worries. It works out fine.

I've got 16's on mine. Ion Alloy 171's. Close on the caliper but they fit. Gotta watch how you balance them. No much room for clip on weights on the inside lip.

I see there's a bolt sticking way off the caliper like it isn't screwed in all the way, but it is. Maybe I could replace that with one that fits correctly. Should I go ahead and order some 15's and take the risk?

I think you're talking about the caliper key retaining bolt. That needs to stay in there. Don't risk it with the 15's, I'm pretty sure they won't fit.

Stay with '98 and older Ford wheels. Ford went metric right around there and the bolt circle is different. I would go with 16's for the simple reason, tires will be easier and cheaper to find. Make sure they are aftermarket or specifically Ford wheels. Mopar and Chevy 8 lug wheels have the same bolt circle, but the hub hole is smaller and they won't fit.

When I got some aluminum 16s for my old truck, I had to grind the two bulges on the caliper slightly to get them to clear.

On my new truck, both the steel chrome wheels and the new H2 rims cleared just fine.

Are those 16x7 or 16x8? Do you remember the offset or backspace they are? I have a 1976 F350 Crewcab and I would like to replace the 16x6 ford steel wheels it has on it. If yours are 16x8, how do they sit in relation to the outside of the fender well? I am looking to have them sit just inside but not as far in as they presently are.
Thanks!

16's on mine. White spoke steelies.

Previous Owner made mention that these are the only ones that fit, so if i needed another one for some reason to get that one.

im guessing they are 16x8's but i havnt measured them..... not sure if it helps, but there are some that fit, anyway.

They're 16x8 with 4.25 inch backspace. My stock ones were 16x7 with 4" backspace so tires only stick out maybe 1/2 inch more. Running 265 70 16's. They don't rub anywhere. Good looking wheel and cheap too! Bought them on ebay. Here's a link.

Thanks for the reply! I did some quick measuring before and thought a 4.25" backspace would work. It's nice to hear from someone who actually fitted them with no issues.

Those are a nice looking wheel. I've been looking at the Eagle 058 which look similar but have smaller holes. I really like the looks of those Ion's. Hmm... I think either one will look way better than the stock hubcaps!

Before I can install any wheels I need to change the wheel studs on my LR axle. Darn left hand threads!

Why would you have left hand threads on your left rear wheel?
Nice truck eh!!!
