So I just installed a used motor in my truck and it used about two gallons of antifreeze in about 100 miles. I also get white smoke when starting and running. The smoke went away for a litte while but this was when I was low on antifreeze. Is it possible I have a blown head gasket. If so is there any methods for testing or should I just pull the motor and put new gaskets on.
I am more inclined to believe you have a head gasket issue. cavitation with a hole directly in a cylinder, will nearly always hydrolock a cylinder or drain directly into the oil pan, depending on where the piston stops when you kill the motor. At least all the cases I have personally seen were like that. usually if you pull the pan and pressure the cooling system, a cavitation issue is easy to see as there is a steady stream shooting across a cylinder, or coming off the bottom of a piston.
