If your engine is stock, the valves are non adjustable. Install the rocker arms and start tightening from rear to front in 1/2 to 1 turn intervals until they are all snug and then torque to spec.
Yes, definitely keep track of the pushrod locations.
A piece of cardboard with two rows of holes numbered 1-8 on the left side, and 9-16 on the other, and as you pull the pushrods out, push them through the hole in the cardboard. Also, try to keep them vertical, wear patterns in each end might match the wear pattern in the lifter and rocker arm.
It's also a good time to look at the end of each pushrod and make sure they are nice and shiny and smooth. And round. ish.
The beast way i came up with is by using the old wood clothes pins. I numbered them like listed above L1-L8 & R1-R8. I put them all in a plastic coffee container for ez indexing and and clean one at a time not mixing up what end it came off. Make sure to use the right type of RTV or Right stuff works good for the front & rear center sealing and not using the gaskets that slip out over time. l like the Edelbrock intake gaskets. I have found by torquing in 3 passes and finally ending up with 30lbs. But some list 25lbs. Lube the intake bolts threads & put some sealer at the under side of the bolt heads so is seals at the intake bolt hole bosses. Don't forget the valley pan like what happens when you get in a hurry and not sitting in front of you but laying in the bed.. Hope some of this helps...my 2cents
