I have a C6 trans that I pulled out of a truck (not original engine and trans combo) It appears to be a C6 but it has ribs on the bellhousing. I was told it is a HD version of the C6 but I need to make sure. If it is a HD C6 how rare are they? are they worth more than a normal C6 2wd trans? What makes them "Heavy Duty"
Thanks
Tom
When I bought my truck, the PO gave me a spare 460/c6. He pointed out the ribs to me and told me it was a HD tranny. He claimed that they were more sought after than the non-ribbed ones.
That's just one guy's claim so take it for what it's worth.

Yea...thats what I heard too , But I am kinda skeptical. I will post a pic tomorrow.
The C6 to my 1970 429 has the exact same ribs. The only difference is that it has the slip yoke tailshaft which I think is longer than the pictured transmission. Did that tranny come out of a truck with a divorced transfer case or did they used to use the bolt on yoke? I can't recall ever seeing that type of yoke used on a 2WD truck transmission.
I pulled the 460 and tranny out of a 1970 1/2 ton 2wd truck. The engine is a 77 or something there about. I am pretty sure it was a truck engine, it did have the D6VE AA rods in it, (bonus day for me!!!)
I dont know anything about the history of the truck, The previous owner said it came from the factory with a 429, I just smiled and nodded my head .......because it was clear to me he didnt know either. I didnt argue with him, I just gave him the $250 and loaded it on the trailer.
My first impression is that the trans was from a car, but I am just guessing.
my truck has the original block and trans in it, and it has those ribs on the top also. i have a 2wd 250 and it was one of the heavier gross vehicle weights of the year.
I have also had big block ones that did not have the ribs on them. But technically they were off of 400's and 351M's. Mine came out of a 1970 Lincoln with a 429.
