Grease Zerk on 2wd Bearing Cap

I am getting ready to put new hubs on my 2wd F-350 conversion, I was just curious if it would be worth putting grease zerks in the caps, that way whenever I grease the chassis, I can give the wheel bearings a shot or two of new grease to keep them well lubed. I know I can't put too much in cause it could blow the seal, or push the cap loose, but just a shot or two would help wouldn't it? any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

IMO you'd be wasting your time.

Agreed, plus chassis grease won't work in the wheel bearings...

Yes, and it works great in the little bearing packers.. But putting a zerk in the dust cap is going to cause you WAAAYYYY more trouble than pulling your hubs and doing it, plus you have a chance to inspect the bearings and races..

The grease gun can't see very well!!!

Plus, the grease will never make it into the bearings.

This just isn't going to work. Unless you pack the hub with grease, it will never make it into the bearings. I guess there's a good reason you won't find anything like this either from Ford or from the aftermarket.

I always pack the hub with grease, and the cap, cause I figured the heat would break the grease down some, and having more grease will help disperse heat. I was thinking kinda like a bearing buddy, and the pressure of the grease being pushed in would somewhat grease the outer bearing more

I don't mean to pee on your parade, but have you ever really looked at a trailer with a bearing buddy? 9 times out of 10 the seal has been blown/pushed out and there is grease all over the inside of the tire and wheel, I don't really think this will do your brakes any good... but what do I know???

BUT, since you seem to have your mind made up, go ahead and do it, just be sure to let us know how it worked out for you....

whoa, i wasn't saying my mind was made up, just saying where i got the idea from, i don't have any experience with a bearing buddy, just have seen em at the store and was just curious. that all, general consensus is that it won't work so i'm not wasting my time putting zerks in the caps
