She brought the the Monterey to me yesterday, with the power steering squealing. Couldn't find any sign of a leak. I put 2 to 3 ounces in it from a new bottle, had her drive it to a school and do figure 8's to clear the air out. I test drove it today, and it's still squealing, when doing hard turns, no quite lock to lock. I checked the fluid, and there are no bubbles in returning fluid. Pipetted sample of the fluid and it's a nice clear red color. I did an oil change two months ago, van had almost 10K miles on it since the last change. Didn't notice low PS fluid, and I think I would have, since I topped off the brake fluid, and windshield wash. She's put 3,000 miles on it since for a life total of 68K miles. Belt is only 7,000 miles old, and it's a Ford belt. Of course this is all my fault since I did the oil change.
I understand the situation, I did TV repair for several years. You fix the tuner and six months later the high voltage goes out and it’s your fault. Thank God I lived in a small town and the local judge had a good understanding of electronics. I never lost small claims court case thanks to him. As far as your problem, I have never heard of air in the system causing squealing. It is usually a loose belt that causes the squealing. I am sure you have already tested that, so the belt could be bad even if it is new. I think I would put some belt dressing on it and see if the problem decreases or increases. This way you would know if it were the belt or not. Other than that I have no other idea. Good luck.
