This old 22 is my fathers and I was wondering who if anyone could get it working again ? I've looked around a little but haven't come up with anyone. It was given to him in the mid 1940's and some time after that some parts were removed and lost, all the parts to fire it. It says J. Stevens Arms and Tool co. on the barrel. Can anyone tell me anything about this oil 22 ?
Looks like an old crackshot rifle. Check out brownells or gunpartscorp to see if you can find a schematic of it and order the missing pieces. It may be listed under Savage Arms (bought Stephens)
It's not going to be worth a bunch of money. You can usually find stuff like that at gun shows for a few hundred, possibly less, or possibly more if it's in excellent condition.
Generally it's better to just fix it up and go shoot it. Much more fun that way, especially with it being old. I did that with an old pump action winchester 22 short. Found the parts, put it back together, and just plink with it.
I will check them out for the parts. Is it worth anything fixed up ? Any idea just how old it could be ?
Since it was your Dad's, it's priceless.
Not too long ago, my Dad had me take all of his old guns out of his house.
In his brace of arms, was an old Tompkins & Allen .32 WRF (Winchester RimFire) falling block rifle.
I've got exactly THREE .32 WRF cartridges.
I'll never let this rifle go out of the family. It was my Grand-Dad's, before it was my Dad's.
