Went to start my 2000 excursion v10 and it had a dead battery. The battery was replaced in June with a duralast gold from autozone. According to my scan gauge my Alt was pushing 14.2 + - when I replaced the battery. So I left the alt alone. I had autozone and advance check the battery Alt and starter. They said the everything checked out ok but the battery needed charged. I charged the battery to 100% @ 6 amps. The ex starterd up like a dream for a few times then the battery died again. I took the battery back to autozone and the replaced it. Now the ex starts up great. Does it sound like my battery was just dead or does it sound like something deeper? My Alt still shows 14.2 + - via the scan gauge and the battery shows 12.5 + - when not running.
I've got a Keystone Springdale 303 BHSSR Travel Trailer too.
Do you have a draw somewhere in your electrical system? It's been a while since I tested for one, but basically you want to close the doors and make sure all the interior lights are off and then check to see how many amps (well, milliamps) are being drawn between the negative battery terminal and the disconnected negative battery cable with a multimeter. You want it as low as possible. Should be .015 or so... enough for the clock in the radio to not lose the time.
This guy uses the positive side. Still works the same way. All current in the circuit is passing thru the multimeter and being displayed on the screen.
This is a good example of what happens when there is a light on or something. 1.92 amps would kill your battery in no time. (the reading is so high because the trunk light is still on)
Thanks, I will check it out if it does it again. As of now it still reads 12.5 after a couple days. Maybe the starter is starting to go and ocasionally draing the battery when I try to start it? I guess time will telll.
