Just for chits and grins, what did everybody learn to drive in.
I learned in a 64 ford, with the three on the tree shifter.
The first time I drove an auto (and power brakes) was a 63 buick.
I wound it up and hit the clutch to shift, (wide brake pedal) and kissed the steering wheel and my little sister that was standing in the seat, bounced off the windshield.
Nope, but there actually was some ford econoline vans that had them, I forget what they were called.
My first car was a two stick rambler, Has anyone ever drove a two stick tranny in a car. lol
I never owned a mini van or a S 10, but I did buy a ford ranger once and put a lot of miles on it for a parts runner. I sure can't say I ever missed it though.
My dad his first car he ever drove was his fathers 1969 Mercury Meteor 390 auto when he was 14 years old. His first car was a 1964 Pontiac Acadian straight 6, 3 on the tree.
His 1st automatic was a 1976 Pontiac Parisienne 400, TH400... witch was so rotten at the end, it ended up using it as a derby car for racing on ice!
My first driving experience, when I was 13, was in the 1990 F250 IDI. And also first thing I legally drove around was that thing also
First automatic was my mothers car, 1999 Buick Century.
I'm subbing this thread, this is a good one, should get interesting
I leant to drive in a 98 F150 with a ugly *** canopy that blocked pretty much everything out the back. Had a 84 Toyota Camry of my grandmothers that refused to die, till a dodge rear ended it about 2 years ago.
First real experience was my uncles 84 F250, with a I6, and I believe a zf5? Don't know which one came in that year. She is a blast to drive, cheap on fuel, and surprisingly fast.
Maybe I shouldn't have started this thread. I'm starting to feel old. lol
I kinda liked the era I grew up in though, my second car was a 67 malibu, my first pickup was a 63 international (one tough sob) My first car I owned after I got a DL was a 69 goat convertible. When I bought that 2 stick rambler, I was getting gas for 23 cents a gallon.
I would have never dreamed in a million years I would be paying over 4 bucks a gallon.
A tank of fuel these days cost more than I paid for my first car. lol
I learned to drive late in life since public transport in the UK is so abundant. I passed my test in a 1991 Ford Escort 1.8 IDI. Never in a million years did I imagine myself living in the USA 20 years later and driving a Ford F250 6,9 IDI. How weird is that?
First truck I remember driving on the farm was an old Datsun pickup. Don't remember what year it was but I guess I was 12-13 years old, wich would have been in 82 or so...truck was probably a 78ish. Dad used take that thing to the mill 1-2 times a week. About the third sack of feed had that thing on the bumpstops and he'd haul 20+ bags, and that was when they weighed 100#. My first car was a 78 Datsun B210gx back in 86.

My cousin bought a new datsun pickup to use on the farm, you couldn't stack enough feed on that thing to bend a spring. lol It was a rough riding thing, if I remember right the rear springs was one thick single leaf, kinda like some of the trailer houses had.
