Power steering conversion

I have a 75 F100 4x4 that currently has strong arm steering and is a mean son of a b*tch to drive, I don't know if the previous owner just pulled the pump off to save power or if it came like this from factory but this thing is tough to steer, seeing as its gonna be my mud truck and it's tough steering in tight spots I wanted to look at doing a conversion, does anyone know anything about this? Thanks

Need Power Steering

BuiltFerdTough,go to the toolbar at the top of this page and click on Articles/Specs. Then on the search bar type in -F-100 4x4 Power Steering Conversion and hit Go. Scroll down 11 articles and click on (1967-1972 Power Steering Conversion article), lots of other good information in other articles here as well.If that is not what you need then check out the Off road 4x4 in the Misc. section of the Forums, those guys have a lot of good info all you need do is ask, good luck.

Yep. Been there and done that with my 73 (in my sig). Used a 79 Bronco as a donor. Ya got an FE, right? Use the PS pressure hose from a 76 cuz it was the only year for an FE with integral PS. Otherwise, do like I did and get a custom line made with a Ford fitting at the pump and a GM fitting at the steering box. Alternatives for the pump/hose issue is below.

The 78-79 T-style steering linkages is the best option cuz the 76-77 inverted Y-style has lots of moving parts and is susceptible to bumpsteer.

Below are the parts and my costs (2009). The pipe from HD is for sleeves in the frame where the steering box bolts through. Don't want to drill and sleeve, then opt for Benchworks' reversed steering box below. :

I actually have a 300 6 but I imagine I could use all the same parts just get a pump and bracket off another 300, disapointed that I gotta redo everything haha I was hoping just an exchangeable steering box and add a pump, I'll have to put this on the ever-growing to-do list, thanks alot for the advice though!

Yeah, the same principles apply with a 300. Don't be disappointed. Rather, look at it as only slightly higher on the difficulty scale but very doable... and relatively inexpensive as I have shown above.

Put this at the top of your list as it was on mine when I got my rig. It makes driving tons less work and a whole lot more fun.

I posted the link in my thread.

Technically it is complete in that it does convert to PS but without the benefit of the 78-79 T-style linkages.
