It's all interchangeable... I would find another 31 spline and some spider gears... or if it's easier for ya to snag the entire 31 spline drop-out with a matching gear ratio.

I may have some 31 spline spider/ side gears if you're in a bind. I also have 31 spline axles, but shipping would be a pain unless you're in Colorado.

As for axle bearings there are two types... sealed and the "Set-20"

Depends on which axle you get, the bearings are not interchangeable

If the 9" rear axle (3rd member aka pumpkin) is from a Lincoln...what year is the Lincoln it came from?

1966/73: Some FoMoCo Passenger Car 9's (and as an option on 1968/72 F100's) have 31 spline axle shafts, 4 pinion Traction-Lok (Posi is a GM term) and...a 9 3/8" ring gear.

ONLY 5 parts are the same as a 9 inch: One pinion bearing and pinion bearing race, pilot bearing retainer, housing gasket and pinion seal.

EVERYTHING else is different!

You can interchange the axles as long as you use the same bearing as what came off that axle shaft originally. The large bearings, 3.15" o.d., have two different i.d.'s, so it will not allow you to put a tapered wheel bearing on an axle that came with a sealed bearing, and vice versa.

thnx, The wheel brg problem has been fixed i have two axels with the tapered brgs. now im working on the (pumpkin) i have one out of a lincon car that is a clutched 4 spider geared posi and am trying to install my 3.50 gears on to it . what i came acrost is that the car 9" has a bigger brg on the pinnion . i think i will just bolt my ring gear on the posi unit and install in my pumpkin and use my pinnionsuport.

1957/79 Passenger Car and 1957/86 F100/150 9's use the same pinion bearings...except if the 9" rear axle has a 9 3/8" ring gear.

These bearings (and races) have BIN's (Bearing Industry Numbers) stamped on them. BIN's are what autoparts stores, bearing shops go by.

If one of the pinion bearings is stamped HM-89444 .. you have a 9" 3rd member with a 9 3/8" ring gear.
