Vibration @ 67_75 mph

Well I've been searching the forum and I think I have a pinion angle problem just want to make sure. I have a V10 4X4 the PO put 2" block lift on rear so I have 2" tapered stock EX block on bottom and square block on top, taper is thin end front thick end to rear, my pinion is almost strait with drive shaft. Was wondering if I turned the blocks around would that put my angle a little more in-line (push front of diff down) or just put square 4" block in. Also my front springs are shot (224000 miles) this makes the front about 2" lower would that be my problem? Going to drive about 2000 miles this week and this vibration is making me crazy any help would be appreciated.

we need a little more info first, do you have a one piece driveshaft or a two piece? Gas or diesel? if its a two piece it could be the carrier bearing in the middle

Don't plan on making it. Driveshaft out of sync with destroy the ujoints in short order. The pinion angle. Coming out of the transfer case needs to be the same at the rear end.

Is it not ok to stack a square block on top of a tapered block. It almost seems like the blocks are in backwards if the pinion is pointing up almost strait with the driveshaft shouldn't the blocks have the thin end to the rear to push the pinion nose down.

honestly i would take out that 4inch block and try it with the 2inch tapered block. taper end towards front. bolt it all up and take it for a drive. your going to want that pinion angle as close to being in-line with the xfer case. with any lift 2inch and above from my experience will require shims to try to get as close as possible to get the driveshaft inline. it doesnt have to be perfect. thats why u-joints are for. there is a sweet spot that your going to have to find. having a 4inch block on top of the 2inch tapered stock one is not going to cut it. even if you just run the 4inch block you will have to shim the hekk out of to get it right. thats why the majority of lifted EX owners will opt in to leave the 2inch stock blocks and go with lift leaf springs.

i drew up something really quick so i can picture whats going with the rear end on ur EX..not to scale lol

Same vibration problem on 02' Excursion

I am having the same vibration problem with my 02' excursion, 7.3 powerstroke, 212K miles, all stock parts, nothing after-market........bought it in 04' with 17K and have driven it ever since. Vibration is only between 70 -78 mph......sounds and feel like traveling over road shoulder rumble-strip. Just started doing this and can't figure it out.......put new tires and new drive shaft u-joint on.....with no luck. Can't see any place where drive shaft balance weights have come off. Looking for direction, thanks in advance.

if you guys put new tires and u-joints and still having vibration problems. could only be one or two things i can think of.

1. driveshaft is out of balance somehow or got dented somehow.
2. Drive line angle is out of whack. need to shim it to correct angle.

i would try #2 first. since it will be the cheapest to try and remedy.

Sorry this is breezy not on my computer.

Found some slack in the slip yoke, took out drive saft measured trans angle its at 7 degrees front of pinion is also at 7 degrees so thats not it, drove without drive shaft no vibration I wonder if anyone is open tomorrow to ballance and rebuild a slip yoke.

One more option, the EX has the same driveshaft as reg cab long bed, if so what years will interchange.

not sure. i would make a new post and ask the other EX owners the max tire size.

but you could bust out tape measure and start figuring out how much room you got. different vehicles will vary slightly due to age and such. then once you get the specifics on the room you got..you can go here

Tire Size Calculator

Found problem, slip joint worn it has some sort of blue rubber on it and that is worn off put some never seize on it and its a lot better for now. It will last until I can get the slip yoke rebuilt.
